On average over the past five years, we have sponsored 1 girl per year in Tonga.
The following story is from one of our beneficiaries, highlighting her ambition and the obstacles that prevented her from completing secondary school before she was sponsored.
To protect her identity, the name of the girl has been changed.
Esi’s Story
“I like science and wish to work in the area of health, either as a nurse or a doctor”
Esi is the captain of her class, a role that gives her honour and responsibility. She has consistently showed hard work and determination in her education. Esi lives alone with her grandmother and after her grandfather passed away, their family had no consistent income. Esi’s grandmother makes handicrafts to sustain them, but it is not enough for big expenses like school.
“My mother gave birth to me before she got married to my father and my grandparents adopted me from the day I was born. My parents have five other children and no formal employment to look after all of us. Thank you for agreeing to support me. I promise I will do my best, I will study hard to achieve my career in future, not only to help myself and my family, but also the people of Tonga.
