On average over the past five years, we have sponsored 4 girls per year in St Lucia.

The following story is from one of our beneficiaries, highlighting her ambition and the obstacles that prevented her from completing secondary school before she was sponsored.

Michaela’s Story

“I would like to say a special thank you for my sponsorship. It has been a very exciting and constructive year which will help me achieve my dream of becoming a doctor”

Michaela demonstrates a great zeal for learning, with her teacher describing her as an exceptional mathematician. She constantly volunteers and takes on leadership roles in class, and has served as a prefect and group leader on numerous occasions. However, she is from a single parent household living with three younger siblings, and her mother has only a primary school level of education. She is unemployed and Michaela’s father provides them with no financial support.

“Although my school experiences have been going great, my family experiences have not been. My parents separated and I have been finding it hard to cope because I miss living with my dad. However, I also find it hard to concentrate because I often think about how hard it is for my mum”
